Black streak on Toshiba laptop screen.

Specs: Windows 7
We own a Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 laptop that is almost two years old. A couple of months ago a small black mark showed up on the left side of the screen. Over time the mark has spread out and it has little red hash marks around the border. No physical damage occurred to initiate it, it just randomly appeared and spread of its' own accord. Is this fixable or are we due for a new laptop?

Hook up an external monitor to the video port on the laptop to check the video output first. If the issues carry over to the external monitor, it's a bad video card/adapter on the laptop's motherboard, or a loose connection (pull/compressed air blow out/reseat of the connection may help).

To me, this sounds like a bad LCD though:

Fairly easy fix (if you're mechanically inclined). Look around online for retailers that'll sell you a replacement LCD - with a decent warranty, i.e. here's one for $70 (out of stock however):

MOOOOooove! OH and you're welcome!
