I opened up my PC recently to see if Win95 worked with just 512MB ram (long story), so I took out one of the cards. It started up ok, but win95 still refused to start. So I put the second card back in, bringing it to 1GB. No luck, as the PC made some beeping noises but the monitor stayed asleep (no signal?). I took out the second card, and the speakers popped alarmingly, before the system booted up as normal. I put the second DIMM back but no dice, and now it doesn't work in ANY configuration :'( help!

Hi, Windoze 98SE has a problem with more than 512 (or maybe 768) MB. It works great with 512. If I remember correcly 95 was also OK with 512. Sounds like you have some other problem. Good Luck, Jim

Ok i cleaned the RAM and took out the BIOS battery, but still it's not working :( I'm 99% sure i took out the power and grounded myself before changing the RAM around, so hoping it's not that. btw, things whirr and hum and light up at startup, but not my optical mouse. just fyi, if this helps.
