A guy called me he had a monitor, when computer starts up it just a black scrren. The starge thing about it that the monitor will not work on either of his two computers, but it is my sisters monitor which still does work on her computer. His old monitor works fine to.

And it gets wierder. The monitor that does not work, works to a certain degree. You can read the BIOS starup info then it goes to the Windows Logo, not the welcome but the Black screen with Windows and the progress bar under it.

Its seem that as soon as windows starts up completely thats when the screen goes black. It seems to be still loading and working in the background.

It also works perfectly in Safemode. Another thing that I've noticed is that while the computer is booting up the buttons for adjusting brightness, contrast, ect, work perfectly but once Windows finishes booting in normal mode it seems like those buttond freeze up.

Any suggestions. By the way this guy has another monitor just as weird, it has a split screen.

Monitors have two modes they work in.
1. Alphanumeric mode which is used in Dos and by the bios.
2. Graphices mode which is used when in Windows.

It's possible for one mode to be disfunctional on either the monitor or adapter.

However, a common problem causing a black screen in the graphics mode, is having the resolution or screen refresh higher than the monitor can handle. Boot up in safe mode and lower the resolution and refresh to see if that's the problem.

Thank you very much. It was the refresh rate.
