Specs: Windows 7
I have recently bought a Biostar A780L Mobo after sticking it into my tower and putting my AMD Athlon X2 64 3800+ CPU in and connecting the power supply and CPU fan, i tried to power up the system to check it was working, It powered up so i went into BIOS to set date and time and just had a look at settings, then i saved the changes and restarted, after the Power on self test all i get is a message that says "The max power of CPU is over 125W, Prepare to shut down.... it counts down from 10 then switches pc off?? Have been working with computers for a number of years so I kinda know what i'm doing but i just cant get it to boot up> Please help!!

I get the feeling some bios setting is off or your processor is bad.

I guess it could be motherboard issue or power supply issue or simply bios needs update. All hard to do if it can't stay on.

Try to get to bios for more info.

Guess it could be the heat sink is off the processor and it is heating up too much.

"Biostar A780L Mobo "

There are three Biostar models with A780L in the model name.

The CPUS you can use in them....

A780L 6.x

A780L M2L+ 6.x

A780LE 6.x

All of them list your CPU model

Specs 3800+ 64 X2

"Thermal Design Power (W) 65"

65 watts, not over 125 watts.

Something else is wrong.

- make sure there is nothing metal loose inside the case that may be shorting something on or under the mboard. If you tilt the case in various directions you may hear there IS something loose.

- make sure you DO NOT have a metal mounting post behind the mboard where there is no mounting hole in the mboard.

- most motherboards have two power sockets that must be connected to the power supply - a 20 or 24 "pin" one, and a 4 or 8 "pin" one.
