I was messing with my bios and it needed to flash it and said "Flashing bios. Please don't reset or power off." Unfortunately for some reason it froze up here, and after waiting a while it was still stuck and was forced to reset...

Now the computer won't boot as was expected, but after capping the Clear CMOS pins and trying to let the battery sit for a while the CMOS still won't reset.

I'm beginning to get stumped. The board is an Albatron KX18D Pro, and I can't figure out what to do. There's no damage, just the CMOS is screwed up because of the reset. Any ideas on how to get this baby up and runnin again ?

If you screwed up the flash, your board may be wasted. How long did you wait for the flash to run it's course? How did you reset...just by hitting the rest button?

When you clear CMOS, make sure you unplug the power cord, then either remove the battery or move the ClearCMOS jumper cap...wait a few minutes to be sure the memory clears, reset the jumper cap (or replace battery), plug it back in, & try to boot. If it doesn't work, you may have created a paperweight.

Here's an idea, though I don't know if it will help or not. On older boards that still had ISA slots, if a BIOS flash went bad, you could sometimes recover & bring up the boot screen by temporarily installing an ISA video card. I don't know if this trick will work on a newer board, but maybe temporarily installing a PCI video card will work in the same way.

Yes, sounds like your BIOS has got itself screwed. However, all is not lost. There are companies that will re-write your BIOS for you at a cost of $10.00 See:

Another trick I have heard of but not actually tried is to find someone with a notherboard the same as you. Boot up to DOS. Then remove the BIOS chip and replace it with your dud one and re-flash it. I am told that this works although removing a BIOS chip with the powere on seems a bit iffy to me.

HI all
one other thing you can try. some mobods have the ablity to boot to the floppy when a bad bios update happens, will have no display. when you updated the bios did you have to change a bios portect jumper ? if so take it off and try booting with the update bois floppy. IF you see the light on and here any activity, wait 10 min
power down, put jumper back and try booting.
