I'm re-building my system and and trying to hook up 4 IDE devices:
1 80GB IBM HDD w/OS 1 200GB Maxtor HDD 1 NEC DVD-RW Drive 1 Toshiba DVD-ROM Drive
No matter how I hook them up, BIOS fails to recognize the Secondary Slave. I have made sure to set each drive's jumpers to master/slave where appropriate. Can anyone help or offer me some advice. Thanks.

Is the 200GB the slave?
Did you try the problem drive by itself?
What does Maxtor say about the jumpers?

Explain exactly how you have connected the IDE cables to each drive.
Do you mean that BOTH the HD slave and the optical slave are not recognized, or only the harddrive slave?

Use master & slave jumpers only - do NOT use cable select. Use 80-wire IDE cables on both channels. Master does NOT have to go on the end plug when using this setup.
