Today my desktop's BIOS won't detect both of my hard drives. It won't even detect floppy. It only detects CD ROM. Is this a virus? it worked fine yesterday and today i wake up and this happens. I am in very big panic. I am calling help from My cute laptop. So i insert Windows XP disk and it says my computer doesn't have a Hard Drive?!?!?! I can go into BIOS setup... help...

Did you open any attachments, run floppies for a friend, install any downloaded programs or run scandisk and or defrag yesterday? There are viruses that will do nothing until you reboot or run scandisk and defrag. Since the CD-Rom works, have you tried running a virus check using your, or a friend's, antivirus CD? Can you get into setup to make sure it's set to detect the floppy and HD?

The HD may be bad but that shouldn't keep the floppy from working and even if the OS is corrupt or system files are missing you would still be able to "see" the HD, you just wouldn't be able to boot. I would first check setup then use an AV disk, the newest I could get, to check for viruses. If that all seems fine, try the HD in a known working system to see if it's bad.

OK, if it works part of the time but not all of the time it could be a hard drive that's getting ready to go out. Again, I suggest swapping the HD to a known working system and see if it works, all of the time, in it. If not try formatting and reinstall the OS. If that still doesn't work replace the HD. I hope you have back ups of all your needed info and if not try to get it to work one more time so you can back up.
