Hello,

I have Abit AA8XE mainboard with BIOS: I925X-W83627-6A79FA19C-17. On the chip there is: PhoenixBios D686 BIOS 196978686.
I've decided to upgrade this version to the newest one downloaded from Abit's website.
I created boot disk and I copied all files to floppy disk as it was said in the manual.
After restart my pc had booted floppy disk and the procedure started.
During upgrading old bios my pc suddenly hung up. I restarted it but there was only black screen. PC starts but do nothing.
I've tried to clear CMOS with jumper, I've taken out the battery, I've disconnected all devices... and nothing.

If there is any chance to repair my bios, please help me.

Lesson learned, do not update the bios unless you have a bios problem and you have found an update to fix that particular problem.

You might be able to get some help at one of the following sites:

www.badflash.com
www.flashbios.org
www.mrbios.com

If you don't have the manual you can download it here:

http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/downloa...

(Right click, then 'save target as')

On page 73 (appendix H) there's a few things you can try. It's not the same situation as you've got but who knows, you may get lucky.

Does the light on the floppy drive come on for a few seconds even though there's no video?

You could get a motherboard with free shipping in USA much cheaper than getting
repair on the one you have.

If the bios chip is removable because it is installed in a socket, your cheapest option is probably to get a replacement bios chip already flashed with the latest update for your mboard. E.g. the Badflash web site can fix you up.
If the bios chip is soldered into the mboard, some places can replace it with a replacement bios chip already flashed with the latest update for your mboard, but the cost of the chip and them flashing it, the labour charge for removing and installing the chip, and shipping costs add up to near what you would pay for a new mboard, if your model is still available, or you may be able to find a used identical mboard for less, or another mboard model new or used that is compatible with your cpu and ram for less. E.g. Badflash can do that, but only if you are in the US. (There is a similar site in the Netherlands (Holland) that can do that if you're in Europe)

However, you MUST supply the correct information about your model to them - the correct entire model number, and often it's Version (V or Ver) or Revision (R or Rev) number printed on the mboard itself - that is usually readily apparent on Asus mboards.

Some places offer bios upgrades, which cost more. The bios chip or bios version software is custom programmed to enable all the features the overall bios version and your mboard chipset will support, including the support for recognizing all the cpu types - this is often superior to the latest bios update availble from the mboard manufacturer.
If your mboard is not booting, and the floppy led does not come on at all, this is an option only if the bios chip is removable.

Be careful when you remove the bios cip - you can damage components beside the socket or circuits underneath the socket. There may be info about how to do that correctly on the badflash site.
