i'm currently helping my friend out with her old PC, not exactly old but here's the basic setup

Pentium 4 1.8 ghz
256 mb RAM
Ge-Force FX5700LE 128mb
80 GIG HDD

looking at above i think she needs another strip of 256mb RAM, however i have no idea which ram shd i get for her. i tried removing the ram and look at it but there's not specs on the speed, only a series of alphabets and numbers followed by a slash 256, which i guess is the memory.

next, i went to her BIOS and took a look at her AGP slot settings, the aperture size i changed it to 128mb, but AGP speed is maxed at only 4x, meaning the 8x card is underutitlized (if i'm not wrong)

i was wondering if i update her bios (can i actually do it myself or get a techie), will i be able to change the max AGP speed to 8x?

Download CPUZ, unzip, & click on CPUZ.exe. This will help you to deteremine the CPU, motherboard, & RAM settings

No problem. By using it, you can determine what RAM she has...my guess is PC2100, but it could be RDRAM or even PC133 if it's an old socket 423 board.

As for the 4X vs 8X AGP issue...if the board doesn't support 8X, there's nothing you can do about it. Actually, the performance difference between 4X & 8X is minor.

PC2100 would be my best guess, it seems difficult to find such in the market alaready
