Comment:

When I got this new board it seems to work fine... but I don't know what caused this.

The BIOS string is TRM - <S3PRO-MUT 2.08>

However, it somehow tells me CMOS Checksum error when I removed its power supply for a few minutes and then plug it back. (Usually when I'm plugging something in and out). It didn't seem to help even if I replaced the battery.

When it boots, it told me Unknown Flash Type at the place where it's supposed to be "Verifying DMI Pool Data...".

The system works fine in Windows XP, but when in DOS, the screen sometimes stops responding and blink, and sometimes it even cannot recognize the keyboard input properly. (It happens a lot when I'm using IDEs like Borland C++ 3.1, and when it happens, the HELP screen can be shown. Sometimes it can be solved by pressing the possible key that can make that result like SHIFT, but it can be disturbing).

I don't know why...

When you replaced the battery did you go into the BIOS setup screen and reset the parameters and save them.

You need to let the system rediscover the hardware paramters and set those that need setting and then save them.

Or your CMOS battery isn't holding the information. As long as the computer is plugged in the motherboard has some power so the battery isn't needed. When you interrupt the power the battery is there to hold the values you set in the BIOS screens.

The battery could be bad, installed upside down, or contacts not making connection. Small chance the clear CMOS jumper could be set wrong.

Occasionally, a MBoard model will have problems with the CMOS battery. I recall some time ago that ECS had such an issue. Some users got relief after changing the battery. Others never did.

But what caused the DOS screen to pause and blink for a while? (Sorry, but it's hard to explain. While in DOS, the screen sometimes pauses and it went black for about 1 second then return to normal, and sometimes the keyboard input can be incorrectly recognized). It will not happen in Windows XP

The CPU temperature cannot be detected. It only shows 0 degrees Celsius. However, the BIOS can still recognize the VCore and Fan Speed.

The black screen can occur when hardware is being configured. Most likely the graphics. I don't know why you are getting no CPU temperature reading in the BIOS.

Did you ever flash the BIOS on that motherboard?

No, I havent.

I don't know why the hardware is being configured when running
the system, and it sometimes beeps when it occur, simply the
screen stop responding.

Since the time I failed to flash my 6VABX2 I haven't flash old
BIOSes for a long time. (Although I kept my newest computer
which has Gigabyte G31M-S2C up to date by using @BIOS and is
generally safe for its backups...)

I don't know. The BIOS strings are

TRM - <S3PRO-MUT> V2.08
10/15/2001-694T-686B-6A6LJFGDC-00

Please check whether there is certain to be bugs somewhere...

If there is ever an update, please tell me. I'm afraid flashing tools
won't help since it cannot recognize what flash it was... (Unknown
Flash Type)

EDIT: It seems the CMOS jumper was entirely open (nothing plugged on the jumper)... I just closed the jumper to the normal state, the CMOS settings can now saved but it didn't seem to solve the black screen/screen delay problem...

Also, the BIOS is write-protected.
