hi everybody. my newly built pc's (athlon xp 3000, asus a7n8x rev.2.0, 1gb xms dual 3200 ram)giving me "bios rom checksum error. detecting floppy media A..." error and i cant do anything else. it cant detect a floppy, no beeps at all.
the floppy reader itself is definately working.
i have tried resetting cmos, made sure all jumpers are right, unplugging all the pci cards, cdroms, hd...the pc was working normal until i set the memory to 150% in the bios. could this mess up the bios chip?
i have searched for this error and found a lot of info and about all of the "bios rom checksum error" issues people had, they also had the following message "please insert the system disk into floppy and press enter" or something close to that. but mine doesnt give me that "insert disk to floppy" part. so about all the info i found about this issue wasnt helpful because they could start their pc with bootable disks.
so in conclusion, i thought its a hardware problem, so anybody have a clue what could've been damaged?
the whole mobo or just the bios chip? because i have just ordered a new, flashed chip from asus.

Ram at 150%...150% of what?
Try updating your BIOS....

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? As for the BIOS chip, did you also order a tool to remove the chip?

i cant update the bios because the floppy is useless.
in the bios, i think its called the ram frequency, thats whats at 150%.
i have tried clearing the cmos. the bios chip is real easy to remove.

hi
go to asus and read how to recover bad flash bios.
You have to create a bootable floppy with you bios file and flash program.Make sure you download right bios

I don't know what the error message means but the following might work.
Take out the motherboard battery for 5 to 10 min, then put it back. This should clear the CMOS.
Try re-booting and with a bit of luck you will be able to access your BIOS and re-set the memory % to what it was before.
This technique has worked for me when I did something similar and got the same error message.
