Hi
I am having a problem with a system I just built. Every time when I turn the system off the bios setting changes. (Date, Time and boot sequence)I have tried changing and saving the date, time and boot sequence from bios. It works for while but when I turn the system off it resets it self to the Old setting.

First thing I would try here is to replace the motherboard battery.

Do you have the Clear CMOS jumper in the run position or the clear position?

You should look for the RTCCLR (close to the battery) solder points on the motherboard, that's what needs shorted. (Page 53 from below)

Thanks Sabertooth I did find the solder points to Clear CMOS. I will try to clear the CMOS but I still don’t understand how this will help to save the CMOS setting every time I turn off the system.

I thought you may have had a jumper fixed in the clear position. You are saving the changes upon exit aren't you?

Hi Othehill.
This motherboard does not have normal jumpers.
There is two solder points on the board. To clear CMOS you short the solder point with screwdriver. Yes I am saving the bios setting changes upon exit.

Is this a new problem with an existing system or a newly assembled unit?

Try removing the MB from the case, setting on cardboard and running like that. You may have a short to case.

What is it about Asus motherboards and their lack of a 'clear cmos' jumper?

Does it revert back to the same date each time--probably several year in the past? That would be consistent with a bad battery. If you're sure the battery is good (you may want to check with a DC voltmeter) then perhaps the battery holder clip is loose or it has a bad solder joint.

Is this an AT case/PSU? If not, then the battery shouldn't be an issue unlessyou unplug the computer.

Thanks Guys For your help!!!
Othehill as you said in your response 11, I took the whole system apart and assembled it out side the case and it did the trick.
There was one extra mounting post for motherboard which was causing the problem (short)

hi

I was having exactly the same problem in my old PC that I have from 7 years were it was the first time I used a pc..in the first year I had it i was sending it to the manufacture but this solves the problem for days only, last year, I had a motherboard from my friend and I decided to replace mine with that I've replaced my mobo then I released, unfortunatly that my case was made for AT mobos while my friend mobo is ATX.. so I've just brought every thing to it's place, when I swiched my PC on, the time was correct tell now,I dont know what happen but it it worked ok after 6 years from I bought it.
I gave this PC to my brother and I bought a dell pc :D
