Why? SATA burners are no faster. And there was no reason to reset the BIOS. Did you run thru all the settings again & correct them?

Even though SATA don't have Master/slave settings they still share controllers. Each SATA controller has two ports. You mey need to move the burner to a different port to separate iat from the harddrive. IMO SATA optical drives are not ready for prime time. Why in the world did you pull out the IDE drive?

my ide burner sucked so i pulled it out...it was only 4x and my new sata is 16. Unfortunelty even after i removed the sata dvd it wont boot all the way. I am configureing the sata as ide because win xp doent work with raid.

You need 2 or more HDDs to run RAID. And to get your SATA drive to run in SATA mode, you'd need to install the SATA drives during the XP installation.

ok , i gigured out the problem, it had nothign to do with the satta drive. I also removed an ide 200 gig drive. when i put thayt driv back in it works fine. Window was not installed on that drive and it is an extra (drive letter D:) why would removing that drive do this. Any way i can properly prepare windows to give it up? the drive is empty. I'v removed drives be fore form xp computers with no problem, i dotn understand this
thanks

I would have to disagree with you jam, sata burners are faster than the ide counter part and I see that ide is on it way out the door.

"sata burners are faster than the ide counter part".

Beginner1
Is the above statement just your opinion or do you have some proof.

As far as I know the transfer rate is not governed by the controller capacity but by the read/ write speed of the particular drive. To give a comparison a cable modem can be connected by ethernet or USB. Both are faster than the ISP connection so it is not an issue.

SATA optical drives have been giving folks fits since their inception. I won't go there until necessary. If setup correctly there is no particular disadvantage to IDE optical.
