Motherboard: Biostar U8668 Pro
BIOS: Phoenix Award BIOS-Energy Star Ally

I was reinstalling Windows XP with my provided Boot/Driver CD's. I have done it a few times, and it's not a hard process. However, I now have run into problems. I recently updated the BIOS from Biostar-USA.com making sure it matches the Mobo correctly, and flahed it with a Floppy Disk and all was well. I also recently updated my Hard Drive to a WD SATA, apart from my Samsung Ulta ATA. I think these 2 reasons are a cause for my problem. My hard drives are not being detected, i Have tried both.

I placed the CD-ROM into my disc tray but it wouldn't boot up from CD-ROM because the HDD was set as the primary boot, so i switched it to CD-ROM as the primary. I deleted all files from the HDD and XP was ready to install, I pressed enter and received the message "Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed on your computer". I dissconnected the SATA drive, PCI Card, and power cable.Iplaced my old Samsung in (which still has an OS installed on it) but still no go. When I have no CD-ROMS in my tray and the pc starts to boot up i receive the message "DISC BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER" I also occassionally received this message when it worked and I first turned it on. But holding the power switch down and rebooting would solve this problem. I never received this error with the older BIOS. Here are some of CMOS and BIOS settings as they are now.

CMOS:
IDE HDD AUTO DETECTION: (press enter)
When i press enter the drive is sill not detected.

IDE PRIMARY MASTER: (none)
IDE PRIMARY SLAVE: (none)

IDE PRIMARY MASTER: (AUTO)
ACCESS MODE: (AUTO)

BIOS:
FIRST BOOT DEVICE: (FLOPPY)
SECOND BOOT DEVICE: (HDD-0)
THIRD BOOT DEVICE: (LS120)

Please help, with any suggestions or changes i should make. It is much appreciated

Nevermind all that, the IDE cable wasn't in all the way.

Doesn't that just tick you off? I did the same today testing a DSL modem. Wouldn't work, until I checked the phone line connection to the modem. (After I spent 45 minutes removing and reinstalling software/drivers.) Wasn't quite in all the way.

"I deleted all files from the HDD and XP was ready to install"

How did you delete the files if your hard drive wasn't being seen in the BIOS? Is it an intermittant problem?

After setting my CD_ROM as the primary boot to boot from the discs, I can then delete all files, and install XP. When XP was ready to install, I received the message "Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed on your computer, Press F3 to quit." I could use the discs, but couldnt install XP because for some reason "Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed on your computer."

Thoughts Anyone?

The point is that the IDE drive wasn't connected with the loose IDE cable. The SATA drive wasn't detected because XP just didn't know SATA by itself. As XP was programmed there was no SATA!

To install to the SATA drive check the bottom line just at the beginning as you boot from the XP CD. Down there something like "press F6 to install third party drivers" appears for a few seconds. If you press it nothing seems to happen at first but after a while XP asks for a driver floppy disc with the drivers you want to install. You need the mainboards SATA driver there and after you installed it following the given instructions XP also finds the SATA drive.

BTW, doing a new installation I suggest to do it on the SATA drive because it's faster so windows also load, saves and read/write the virtual memory faster!!!
