Comment: I think I have a bios problem, when I turn on my machine, it locks up almost imediately, I cant even go into setup. Does this mean I have faulty Bios, and is there any way to fix it other than replacing the chip Fred

Reply: (edit)There could be many reasons why this is happening. Describe what led oup to this situation. One thing you can try is to clear the CMOS. Either use the Motherboard CMOS jumper which is best, or remove the battery for a period of time.

Reply: (edit)It started with windows not loading. I swapped HD into an older machine, and when I put it back into the machine, it would not POST or Setup. I have tried battery and jumper fix, but nothing changed Fred

Reply: (edit)I have a similar problem with a old barebones kit. The computer is a spacewalker 1 Ghz celeron with 256 of ram. It has a 80 Gb Hhd and everything is built into the board. When I try to start the computer it hangs when it tries to check the dmi pool data. I have reseated and swapped out all of the drives and tried diffrent ram but the computer still hangs. So any ideas?

Reply: (edit)Check the cpu fan. No fan, no boot. Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

Reply: (edit)Check that the IDE cables are firmly seated. Particulary at the motherboard end. Also if your HDD doesnt have a keyed IDE socket, check that the red stripe is at the pin 1 end.
