Subject: Bios Password?OS: Win XPCPU/Ram: 512 DDR 400 |
Comment: Hi, new poster here, eventually need some help! Been having a lot of problems with my BT Voyager 100 modem recently. On installing it and rebooting I am told that "lsass.exe - the endpoint format is invalid". Anyway, multiple formats later I decided to stop loading this modem/drivers until i got the new installation disk from BT. Problem starts here, on booting my PC it goes straight to the BIOS and asks for my BIOS password! I dont have one! My Bios is set "disable password" I cant get past this. Motherboard is a Azuz (i think thats right) After the last format on Tuesday the PC was working fine up until today when i attempted to power up. Help please!!??

Reply: (edit)1st of all, formatting is not how to fix a problem...it just creates more work. Did you install the the drivers (motherboard chipset, video, sound, etc)? Install either SP1 or SP2? Run the Windows update program? And you had to do all this multiple times? YIKES! Your motherboard is probably ASUS, not AZUZ, but without knowing the make/model, it doesn't help...probably wouldn't be of any use anyway. You didn't need to get a disk from BT, your modem drivers are probably available online...actually, the are: http://www.voyager.bt.com/usb100/prodinfo.htm Google turns up over 200 hits about your lsass.exe problem. Are you familiar with the BIOS? To clear the password, simply pull the power cord, then either pull the motherboard battery or use the ClearCMOS jumper (see your manual), wait a minute, replace the battery (or reset the jumper to the normal position), plug it in & bootup. This will clear the password, but will also reset ALL the BIOS settings to their default values. You'll then have to enter the BIOS & review everything single menu entry & adjust as necessary to relect the hardware that you have installed in your system. Reply: (edit)Ok the windows disk i have is written to preform all those actions on after windows loads, SP2, essential drivers and my spyware and AV programmes. (dont ask!!) Anyway, on updating an the like, i cant, like a said i could not install my modem/drivers without knackering the PC again, so that isnt an option. As far as the lsass stuff on google goes every user had to format on run the repair. I tried the repair once and it didnt work, still got the lsass error. Asus sounds more like it to me, but i am afraid i i have idea of the model! Is your suggestion the only way to reset the Bios, and why did it happen in the first place. P.S. Thanks for getting back to me so quick :-D

Reply: (edit)"Ok the windows disk i have is written to preform all those actions on after windows loads, SP2, essential drivers and my spyware and AV programmes (dont ask!!)" Sorry, I have to ask...is this a custom made CD? Why not try using the authentic Windows CD (if you have it)? As for the BIOS password...someone password protected it, if not you, who would have done it? Boards don't come from the factory with a password installed. If you don't wanna pull the battery or use the ClearCMOS jumper, you can download & run a program called KILLCMOS...it will remove the password, but it will also reset the BIOS to the default values. No matter how you do it, you're gonna have to run thru all the BIOS settings & correct them: http://www.utilitygeek.com/details.php?fileid=82 Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 Asus A9550 128MB/128-bit Gamer Edition WinME/WinXP Pro

Reply: (edit)While restoring windows from a ghost CD is a terrific time saver, it is useless if it reinstalls damaged files. You should try a proper install and see if that fixes your problems.

Reply: (edit)I think you may be missing the point here Jam. I cant get into windows or the hardrive,or boot from disk. Also i have been using this modified version for sometime now without a hitch, so i suspect that the two are not related. I only metioned it before to see if it may help someone tell me why the Bios has screwed up. I live with my girlfriend who is currently on her hols so no one has touched my PC other than me, and I set bios not to ask for a password. Learnt the hard way on an older machine. So I have no idea how this has happened. Also, now the machine only goes into the bios password screen every 2nd boot. The other boot is just blank, with no beeps, nothing. I have no idea how i would run that programme if i cant even get the machine to detect my drives?? Once agaain, thanks for the speedy replies.

Reply: (edit)You didn't mention that earlier. Obviously that cause of your computer not to post can also be the cause of your other problems. Clearing the cmos might help. The instructions to do this vary between models. As you don't know the model number of your motherboard, you obviously don't have a manual handy. Removing the battery with the power disconnected will work on every motherboard. How long you need to leave it does vary, some manufacturers put capacitors on the board so that when you change the battery, you won't loose the settings. Overnight usually beats this. Also, this sort of problem can be caused by the CPU overheating. The fins of the heatsink make for a terrific dust trap. If this is so, clean it out with compressed air or a bristle brush. Somebody posted yesterday that they vacuumed, and surprise nothing works anymore (static discharge).
