Ok, I pulled out my Dell Dimention 4100 to rebuild for a firned and realized that I forgot the BIOS password.. after three tried it locked me out.
Now if I even turn the box on I get nothing.. nada, nill.. I can hear the HD spinning, I see a few lights on the MB but nothin g on monitor.. not even a lonly curser...
Is that just the box locking up? How do I reset the MB?

Try to set the BIOS to default by removing the MOBO battery for a while or by jumper if it has one.

You can either open it up & look for the ClearCMOS jumper...or you can remove the CMOS battery...or you can use a program called KILLCMOS

cant run any programs if it is not booting at all..
As for the batery... I took it out for about 40 min... no change... I will try having it out for several hours possibly even overnight.
Is it possible for a bios lock out to totaly prevent any kind of boot or would it normaly give you some error..
With the fact that nothing is happening at all I am worried that somehow I fried the MB... which would suck...
There is a single jumper with 3 pins.. I tried moving it over but no good.. I did read somewhere that I should totaly remove the jumper and try that..
thoughts?

The BIOS will clear in a matter of seconds...you do not have to leave the battery out for hours. But you DO have to unplug the power cord for the BIOS to clear!

Dimension 4100 Single jumper is located forward of PCI slots. 1. Jump pins 2-3. 2. Start and down computer. 3. Reset jumper to pins 1-2.
