BIOS im very confused

hi i am a complete newbie to computors and i want to update/flash my BIOS but i dont understand at all any explinations on vaious website on how to do it so can anyone explain how to do it in ENGLISH thx
by the way i think my motherboard is an SIS 645 with something like award modular BIOS?? or something :)

First... donot flash your bios till you absolutely need it. Its a high risk process.

Second... PCChips has good directions to do the upgrade.

Ahh!

first you need to know the ///correct information about your motherboard///

- model
- cmos serial

then use a model number or serial number of the cmos or flash rom and usualy go to the www of the motherboard and see if there is update.

be carefull!!

i gots a BIOS update thing and im sure its the correct one but when i doubleclick on it my screen goes black for a second then goes back to normal has it updated my BIOS?? or have i done something wrong

Hey softwareman:

I mean you no disrespect but I don't think you should be flashing your BIOS. If you mess it up, your MOBO will be dead. This is something that you should do with direct supervision and only if there is a good reason to do it.

well the reason im doing it is because my screen keeps flickering in 3d games and ive tried absolutly everything to get rid of it
new graphics cards new monitor removing anything that could be causing static absolutly everything this is my only option

There's no guarantee that a BIOS flash is gonna help...& it's not something that should be attempted by a newbie. If you do it wrong, you'll be posting for advice on purchasing a new motherboard...LOL!

Update your video drivers...check the motherboard website FAQs...do some online searching...double check your BIOS settings...but don't attempt something as important as a BIOS flash without completely understanding what you're doing & what the consequences will be if it's done wrong.
