Hi.
I've got a bit of a problem with this computer in as much as I can't seem to find an option in the bios to boot from a cd.
The closest I came to was things like headless operation and drive info.Kabling:
Cdrom: has its own kable on kable select.
Hdd: again, own kable.
ide0 = cd rom and ide1 = hdd.Its booting to the hdd which has some diagnostic program on it atm, but that doesn't giv me any kind of ui to load things from any other drives - pretty annoying really.
The first result that comes up when googling for the bios is a post by someone who had the same problem which they resolved by pressin enter - however after riguresly pressing enter several times, the only thing that this yeelds is the bios screen.Could someone let me kno what i'm doing wrong here?
Chears, BEN.

ouldn't find too much on this unit. Did find a couple of links you may find useful.

Chears for the links.
The first one does seem to match the machine that I have, and the 2nd one does list the features in the bios. You'd think it would be in startup control or perhaps even advanced but its not.
Thanks anyway.

The last time I messed with an IBM PC I found the setting to be very convoluted. Not at all user friendly. I was actually trying to do the same thing as you, change the boot order. I can't recall what had to be done but I did eventually get the boot order changed. Seems like you had to highlight an item and use the up/ dn keys to move it to a different position.

OK, I have an old IBM Aptiva that I just checked. F1 at boot will get you into setup. The startup control is what you want. You should see a list of any installed drives there. Highlight the line you wish to change. Use the arrow keys. It doesn't appear to change anything when using side arrows until you use the up/dn arrows and you will then see the change in the boot order.

bmustillrose, you said "ide0 = cd rom and ide1 = hdd".
It's standard practice to have the hard drive as master on IDE0. On 'most' machines it's not really necessary, but it might be a good idea to try the hard drive on IDE0 and the CD drive on IDE1.

I kno this is obsolete, but I just remembered I never said thanks and I was stopping by anyway.
Othehill, you were correct, was just my mum beeing stupid.
The problem is that i'm actually blind, so untill a machine gets to the point where I can pop some os on it or at least boot into dsl or something like that, i'm pretty useless at bios stuff coz obveously keystrokes are different per unit.
I had someone with eys to look again and yeah, its in startup control.
Chears.
