Bios help, upgrading cpu, max. ram

April 10, 2010 at 17:47:18
Specs: Linux, INTEL P3 733MHZ/256MB
I got this old computer that I was going to update
to max settings and sell (to make more money!) If I were to update the cpu (socket 370) to an P3
1.4ghz socket 370 processor, would it change
the bios or anything, like memory amount???

Sell it as-is. You'll be lucky to get $50.

Either pricing is extremely different or you have a lot of idiots in your country because you'd be lucky to get $50 (approx £30) in the US. And you can't do much of anything with just 256MB RAM, even with Linux. Which distro are you running?

You also need to list ALL the specs (CPU, RAM, motherboard, HDD, power supply, etc) if you want a decent estimate of what it's worth.

You will be lucky to get £80 or any where near it unless you are lucky enough to run into a sucker. £30 is about right, that's if you can find a buyer.

As a general rule of thumb computers lose %50 of their value every year. So after three years is worth %12,5 of its original value. A P3 is going to be around six or seven years old so that makes it practically worthless.

Well thats a shame cause i had it for years and years since it
was a p1 and they upgraded it, once i went to the shop, theey
said it was un-upgradeable but they just cant be bothered with
old systems, i kno perfectly well that it was, i checked as well,
lol, shows how people are so demanding!

Thanks, Matt.
