Comment: I brought my PC for fixing and i got the message from the technician that my PC got BIOS failed, signed by no beep sound when booting and he told me to change the mainboard. Should I change or could it be fixed? Please someone help me. The price of mainboard is very expensive now and I have to work with my PC. Thanks. Regards, FitContact me: wwwfitdotcom@netscape.net

Reply: (edit)If a technician says your board is toast then either you trust him to have told the truth or take it to someone else for another opinion. Be prepared for the worst. Sometimes boards fail and there is nothing that can be done to resurrect them.(Nothing that an educated amatuer can do anyway) The worst part about losing a mainboard is that if it's from an older (2-3 years) machine then you might have a lot of trouble getting a board that's compatible with your other components such as CPU, ram and graphics card. You might end up having to do a complete upgrade. Good luck with it. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

Reply: (edit)"i got the message from the technician that my PC got BIOS failed, signed by no beep sound when booting and he told me to change the mainboard. Should I change or could it be fixed?" How about some background on what happened to cause this problem. Had you made any type of changes (hardware or software) at the time this problem began? There are other things that would cause the 'no beep sound' besides a failed BIOS. If the board needs to be replaced, would you be doing it yourself, or would this guy be doing it? Do you plan on keeping the P350? I believe that's a Slot-1 board? Matrix Surplus has at least a dozen different Slot-1 boards for under $30 http://64.71.148.183/commerce/catalog/spcategory.jsp?category_id=1037&czuid=1089115249836

Reply: (edit)Yes, what was the symtoms? Was it working somewhat, but incorrectly, or not starting at all? Normally, a "failed bios" means that the machine will not even boot.
