i did a bios flash a couple of days ago to find out that the flash went well but my cpu is not operating at its normal speed it needs to operating on my mother board ASUS A8AE-LE (AmberineM)(Compaq/HP)my bios is a Pheonix Award BIOS ver 3.15. many people who have this make and motherboard have reported problems i was wondering if i could get a lower version of this bios preferably ver 3.14 but ill take 3.13 as it came installed when i got the computer. i would really appreciate any help thanks

It's likely you need to go into cmos/bios setup and configure the cpu there.
If that doesn't work go to the compaq support page for your model to look for previous bios versions. Even though it's an asus board it's 'branded' as compaq so that's where you need to go to find the bios.

"my cpu is not operating at its normal speed it needs to operating"
The S939 A64 3500+ is supposed to run at 2.2GHz (11 x 200MHz). What speed is it running at on your board?

right now running cpu-z its running at 995 Mhz x5 at 200 Mhz, and ive heard lots of problems with this current BIOS version i have ill check compaqs website but im not sure they will have it listed ive read that they claim that the version im looking for doesnt exist when i know it does
i just looked and couldnt find anything on compaq unless im looking in the wrong arean but heres what i saw http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...
oh and my voltage for my processor is down too operating at 1.1v when its supposed to be at 1.35v/1.4v

I think the bios file for version 3.13 is sp26763. I found this download for that file name here:
http://members.driverguide.com/driv...
I think you'd want 3.14. Read these:
http://www.wimsbios.com/blog/bios-u...
http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topi...
If you can find the sp file name for it you can google it and probably find a download.

ok just flashed back to version 3.13 and my processor problem is not fixed its still at the same number i was praying that this would fix it but it didnt..now is it possible that i have to reset cmos and change the settings back to what they are supposed to be? or am i screwed or what?

Then it's probably not the bios upgrade that's causing the problem. When you flashed it you reset the cpu configuration. I would imagine you could consult the motherboard manual. But all the manual downloads for that model seemed to be just generic stuff.
It's not going to hurt anything to reset the cmos. But you really need to find out how to adjust the cpu settings in cmos. Too often compaq bios' are horse and buggy stuff compared to 'real' motherboards but since it's a phoenix/award it should be there.

yeah ill try that but just for reference should i jot down all the current settings i have now for reference? just in case i get lost ya know? and also is it possible that i can change the settings for the cpu? because ive heard that most generic computer companies shadow their bios's but ill give it a try

It wouldn't hurt to make a note of the current settings. If cmos/bios setup does have cpu setup options then it shouldn't be hard to find. The old asus K7 boards I used to set up all had their cpu settings there. Also, the fact it's now running at the wrong speed indicates it must be there.

that makes sense, alright ill give it a try and get back to you if something doesnt go right or something

i tried clearing cmos...didnt work...only had to put in custom settings i had once before and those are extremely minor..how do i access my cpu settings in cmos to reset them?

I'm not sure. I've never worked with that specific motherboard. Generally it would probably be under one of the 'advanced' options.
If you can't get a manual through HP/compaq you might try Asus. They might not list that exact model # since it's one of their OEM boards but you may be able to find their version of essentially the same board.
Possibly the cpu is configured by jumpers or a DIP switch on the motherboard. I didn't bring it up before because you didn't mention making any changes there. But that's the only reason I can think of as to why you wouldn't be able to configure it in cmos. A bios upgrade wouldn't affect jumpers so the cpu speed wouldn't have been changed--it would have to have been at the wrong speed before the upgrade.

well i figured it all out i finally just called AMD and found out that there really wasnt a problem at all....it was the cool 'n quiet drivers on the processor doing that...i had no idea that thats what that did..its basically brings down everything to the lowest possible operating values and spikes when the cool 'n quiet is triggered so yeah not really a big problem all i did was manage my power settings and that fixed it...i thank you for your help it was greatly appreciated thank you

Yeah, I never thought of that. Sometimes the bios will slow down the cpu as a power saving measure.
Assuming that's not changed by the bios upgrade you might consider going up to version 3.15 again.

ill think about...may save it for another day when im bored i guess lol but thanks for your help i really really appreciate it we all learned something today lol
