BIOS does not see my HDD

Samsung Q1U -- attempted to replace Toshiba 1.8" PATA ZIF HDD with a Runcore 1.8" PATA ZIF SSD. Worked briefly but then stopped -- can connect both devices via USB housing but neither is recognized in BIOS when installed and connected to main board.
Tried to re-flash BIOS but could not find a way to do that. Used Samsung Q1U Recovery CD -- boots into recovery program but since it does not see a drive cannot proceed -- attempt to use startup recovery tool does not work.
Have checked and rechecked cable and ZIIF connectors and see no sign of damage or failure.

USB drive are probably not going to be configured in the BIOS.
If you have a working OS then look for the USB drive in Disk Management. You may need to take ownership of the files/folders.
I don't use Vista so I can't tell you how to do the in Vista. The main issue is to see if the drive/s are showing in Disk Management.

Sorry - I wasn't clear. I am not trying to configure HDD in USB -- just saying that both drives work when connected to another pc using USB enclosure. Neither HDD works when connected via ZIF to main board in my Q1U -- BIOS does not see a drive.

I don't know what the ZIF connection you mention is. The only ZIF I am familiar with is the CPU socket. Do you mean an eSATA connection?
