|Don't "read all around the internet", read what's on the Asus site. According to the CPU Support list, the beta BIOS only supports ONE specific Phenom - the Phenom X4 9450 which only runs at 2.1GHz. There's no guarantee that any other Phenom will work. Unless you truly have a need for a quad core, a faster dual core that wouldn't force you to upgrade the BIOS would be a better choice. To be honest, an AM2+/AM3 board would be an even better choice.|
Performing a BIOS flash is risky business. Most Asus boards have a crash free BIOS, but there's always a chance that you may "brick" the board.
