Comment:

I have purchased a ASUS P4P800 mobo and a Intel 2.8 GHz Cpu (800 mhz sys bus, with HT support). ASUS has a listing of RAM in the manual, but I do not have a clue as to which is faster.

1) Single or Dual channel - I think dual, but it does not hurt to ask.
2) What manufactuer puts out the better memory, or does it matter that much, I will probably stick with Micron, Cousair or Samsung, unless there is something better / faster?

3)www.asus.com has a listing of what memory you should purchase (matched pairs), I figure PC3200 DDR 400, either 1X512MB or 2X256MB, any difference, if the price is not too high, I may go for the 1 GIG.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you for your time in advance.

1 stick will not give you dual channel. You need 2 matched sticks, and they need to be configured according to the MB chart for dual channel. When shopping for "dual channel" memory (read- matched pair of modules) take note that the price listing isusually for 2 modules (pair), although that isn't always clear.

Corsair has a range of products, the top of which is the best money can buy for a gaming/home rig. Any brand you have heard of will yeild good results, but if u are the type of user who likes to squeeze ever last fps out of their system, go for Corsair top of the line sticks. Also, go for dual channel, choose an amount total you want to have and get that in 2 sticks.

I buy Corsair. It's the Cadalac of memory. Just don't buy the value select (VS), it sucks.

Kingston Memory, just wondering is it at least comparable to Corsair?

Here is a quote for some I got from a store in my area:

Hi Larry;

This particular Corsair ram is considered as "Gaming Memory"
CMX512-3500C2 XMS3502v1.1 it would cost $240

If you want 1 GIG of Corsair in Dual Channel mode, there is a different part #:
TWINX1024-3200C2, your cost $355

For ASUS P4P800 motherboard, we recommend the following Kingston Value Ram for stability purpose

KVR400x64C3/512
$127 each

KVR400x64C3A/512
$129.50 each, or

KVR400x64C3AK2/1GIG (Dual Channel)
$259

If you're not looking to overclock the kingston dual ddr is fine. If you're looking for the best (and want to OC) go for the corsair TwinX4000 Pro. That's what I have and it is great. Ecspecially the leds on it.

If you have a cable or dsl connection check this link out. http://www.3dgameman.com/vr/corsair/xms_4000_pro/video_review.html
