I was an Altec Lansing user for the longest while, but the last AL set I bought was garbage.
Therefore, I'm looking for some reccomendations on what is the best PC speaker set on the market.
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have literally tried every brand I could get my hands on for customers systems over the years and I still say Harmon Kardon sound the best. However it appears that all they are now owned by JBL or at least the multimedia end is.

This is like asking which processor is best. AMD or Intel. Or, is that Intel or AMD? :)
People have different listening tastes and therefore can hear good from bad, or bad from good. Not to mention that setup plays such an important role in how speakers sound as well as the sound card being used.
My suggestion is for you to go out and listen to various speaker systems and setups. Then buy what your ears like to hear and to hell with anyone's opinion. After all, you are the one listening to them and not any of us.
With the above said, I'll offer my worthless opinion and suggest that Klipsch are the best I have ever heard. And yes, I did go out and listen to many different speaker systems. Like Logitech, Creative, Cambridge Soundworks (owned by Creative I believe), Altec Lansing, etc. And yes, I did buy the Klipsch 5.1s.
Good luck!

yeh klipsch is good. i have the logitech z-680s and those are really good i think. the reason i didnt get klipsch was cuz i was just about to buy the logitechs when i found out about them and i didnt feel like going through a million reviews again to find out every little thing about them.although i heard the sound of klipsch, and they is damn good.

Thanks for the help, everybody.
I wasn't just looking at sound quality, the reason I posted this thread was due to the fact that the speakers I have now (Altec 5.1 MultiMedia) sounded fine initially, but after a few months started to wear down and crackle and pop, even with the volume fairly low. Keep in mind, I never did anything to blow the speakers, I'm very cautious about all of my entertainment electronics. They just started to wear down.
I suppose I should've mentioned that initially...LOL.
Again, thanks for the help.

I've eliminated several brands because of their wearing out too soon. Not needing anything more than "good ol' stereo" myself, a few years ago I settled on two sets of Yamaha YSTM50's. 40 watt subs, 20 watts (each) satellite and they sound as good as the modest Kenwood home system I had. $100 a pair was the clincher. Still kickin' like new!

I love my 2 Cambridge soundworks sets. These were very often touted as best speakers for the buck a while back. The 2.1 set goes for like $30 and it sounds nice. I paid about $100 for a digital 4.1 setup. They were bought by creative but as far as I can tell (bought 4.1 after merge) they are still manufactured seperately.
