Seagate drives are the only ones that carry a five year warranty. I only buy Seagate drives.

I've found 2 things from experience:

1: Historically good manufactures can make bad products. Historically bad manufactures can make a good product.

2: You can still get a "dud" even when the same hard drive works for 100 other people.

My advice, go to newegg.com, go to the hard drive section, narrow down the results to the size/type you want, then start reading the user reviews.

I agree with RTAdams. But I would go with either Maxtor, Western Digital or Seagate.

Check http://48bitlba.com/, it's possible that your motherboard might not support drives larger than 127gb.

Do a google search for 48bitlba and you can get some information on the problem.

A motherboard without support for 48 bit LBA cannot handle hard drives larger than 127gb. More RAM has nothing to do with it. But it can handle multiple drives as long as each drive is not larger than 127gb.

'IF' your motherboard does not support 48bitlba, it's possible that a bios update could fix it, but it depends upon the motherboard. I can't help you with that. You can try going to the Intel site with your motherboard model number to see if you can determine if it's 48 bit LBA compatible and if there is a bios update.

Check the 48bitlba.com web site, they might have some help for you.

If this is a desktop and it has a free PCI slot, it's possible to add a hard drive controller card that handles any size drive. If it's a laptop, you might have to settle for a 120gb drive.
