The diagnostic software from the HDD manufacturer would be a good place to start.

I typically use the DOS version of scandisk.exe to scan for any bad sectors. For doing everything else I use Seagate Disk Manager with it's stand alone OS.

Yes, scandisk is excellent for FAT32 drives. XP's Chkdsk is not nearly as good. Just because Chkdsk says a drive is ok, do not take that as Gospel.

Yes, but in NTFS ??? Is it good? I think it's the same s**t right ?

I downloaded Seagate's and Western Digital's Tools and I check them. I think they are ok... I'll have you informed.

Unfortunately scandisk (DOS) does not work with NTFS.

I know, thats why I'm asking...cause i have windows XP installed
and NTFS partitions...
