Does it have to be DVD-R? Are you certain you don't want the popular DVD+R (or even DVD-/+R)?

If you're looking for a DVD drive without the Read/Write capabilities, then the correct terminology would be DVD-ROM drive.

Take a look at the brand LG ! I read a short time ago about one of their DVD burners that supports all types of DVD, and yet it was very affordable.I apoligize I dont have more info ,model # etc. Sometime ago I purchased an LG CD-RW ,again the price was very good ,so I did not expect what I ended up with ,which is a great CD-RW ,that has never made one coster yet! Good Luck Nick

UnR3aL,
Theres couple of models so I assumed the one you're looking at is TDK Indi Black 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, Model AID+880N. This one is a DVD±RW Burner, which means its capable of recording on DVD+R and DVD-R media, instead of burning to just DVD-R.
While I'm not endorsing any thing, I noticed a few things. At newegg, the price seems to be far below that quoted at other other websites. The customer reviews seems to speak highly of this model.

the best DVD-R was at frys...for 39 cents each but had to buy a spindle of 25
u did say DVD-R and not DVD-R drive/recorder, right?
i got the BTC DVD-R 8X at office Max for 59 bucks after rebates. AS more and more dual layer DVD burners come out and as faster and faster DVD burning speed burners come out the price will come down. so all depends when u are planning on buying.
but its more than just price. also how many kinds of DVDs does it burn? DVD-R DVD+R DVD-RAM and at what speeds on each. do not forget the DVD-RW ones also but most ppl do not look at that.
also some DVD burners will not burn all dvd media, some burn better than others, some burn slower than others even if rated the same.
