Looking at the nVidia drivers archive, it appears the last driver version to officially support Win98 is version 81.98. If you look at the product support list, the best card listed is the GeForce 6800 Ultra.

On the ATI side, the last Catalyst driver to support Win98/ME is version 6.2. The release notes list the Radeon 9800 series as the best officially supported but it also mentions beta software support for some newer cards...the best on that list being the Radeon X850.

i had an AGP x850 xt. I'd recommend the GeForce6800.

The X850XT is better/faster than the GF6800...it's downside is it doesn't support shader 3.0
