Specs: Windows XP
I have a 4 year old BenQ DVD-RW of model DW-1650 that has been working fine, but now all of a sudden it has decided that all my CD's are made out of dark matter and completely ignores them. Is it on a separate laser emitter/reader or something? Its really annoying.

Basically, when i put a CD in it does exactly the same as if I would put in a DVD upside down.. *Spin up to detect speed, wink wink, aha nothing there, spin down*
I have checked firmware, the Upper lower filter thing in windows.. (It doesnt read boot cd's)

Check that its data cable is in good condition and tightly connected but likely if it won't boot from a boot cd (with the cdrom as the first boot device in cmos/bios setup) then the drive is bad.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.

If it isn't the cable or connection you probably have a bad drive. They do fail.
