Subject: beeping after installing CD Rom DriOS: xp proCPU/Ram: 1700mhz/512 mb |
Comment: I replaced a failed CD ROM Drive with a working replacement ( not new). after the reboot there is continuous pulsed beeping sound from the pc. i replaced it in exactly the same way as the old one was installed. i had originaly tested the replacement on another pc and there was no beeping. does anyone know what is causing this and how to cure it. Thanks ian

Reply: (edit)Ian, The beeping is telling you that is an issue with the CD-ROM installation. Several things spring to mind. 1. If the CD is connected to the same ribbon as the Hard Drive, and that Hard drive jumper setting is set to MASTER, then the CD-ROM must be set to SLAVE on the jumpers at the back of the CD-ROM. 2. If the Hard Drive is set to CABLE SELECT (CS) then the CD-ROM must also be set to CS. 3. The BIOS must be set to recognise the now Slave/secondary device on this ribbon. Set the secondary device on the primary IDE to AUTO. 4. if the CD-ROM is NOT on the same ribbon as the Hard Drive, that is you have installed it on the SECONDARY IDE cable, then it must be set to MASTER if it is on its own. Similarly, you must tell the BIOS that a device is now on that IDE port, again AUTO. Try these and get back...:o) Safe Computing...:o)
