Ok, I just purchased a new PC the other day. Shortly after transferring all the important data off a secondary drive in my old system the HDD crashed hard. I pulled it out and tossed it after verify it was NG. I then went to redo the old system and now I'm encountering a problem I've not run into before. In a nutshell, it boots to a bootdisk without trouble but after running for a couple minutes, I hear 3 beeps and the screen goes blank on my monitor. I can get about 30% through formatting the 20 GB HDD presently in the system. This is definately a good HDD to in case anyone wants to ask.
I've stripped it down to one CD-ROM, video card, and one HDD and done the usual troubleshooting but I can't figure out what's causing this.

Boot up and enter the bios setup program. Stay there and check the temperatures and voltages in the bios. See if it fails if you don't try to run anything else.
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Does the behavior always occur at the same spot in formatting? If so, that 20GB HDD may NOT be good. There could be a bad sector(s) at that point.
