Comment: Phoenix bios on a P2 400Mhz Gateway E-3200 is NOT giving me the typical Phoenix beep code, apparently. I confirmed the the bios IS Phoenix by downloading the manual and by taking a spot check on the mobo. I get one long and two short beeps and that’s all. It does not repeat. (It should be 4 sets of beeps, right? As per Phoenix standard.) History: This is a street find missing only memory and an AGP video card. I put in a PCI video card and one stick of pc100 32mb ram into slot zero. (the jurks at gateway designed this desktop model not to take a standard shaped AGP card!) My PCI video card and memory stick are both good. I cannot determine what is wrong if the beep code does not conform to Phoenix standard. Is this a parts find, or is there still hope? Thanks Doxy

Reply: (edit)Have you tried resetting the BIOS? Can you enter the BIOS to disable AGP slot? If all else fails. Go to Gateways website and download the BIOS file from them and reflash the BIOS. Or you may be able to find the needed BIOS at motherboards.org. It is very important that you use the correct GATEWAY BIOS flash for this board.

Reply: (edit)Standard shaped AGP ....um you do know that there are 2 standards right, each with its own voltage, and key so they cant be interchanged. I believe 1 long and 2 short is video error, try a diffrent pci card.

Reply: (edit)I have already taken the battery out to clear the cmos. I feel that Gateway totally f**** their customers by designing a mobo/case design that does not acccomedate the standard fiting agp card. Yet, there is an AGP slot! This is a BX board.

Reply: (edit)Doxy I will tell you once again and maby you can understand this time there are 2 standards for AGP slots, so gateway did use a standard, just not the one you have seen. and finaly, 1 long and 2 short is video card error.

Reply: (edit)Doxy, The E-3200 uses an NLX form factor AGP card and not an ATX form factor AGP card. Here is an example: http://pcpartsinc.com/prod5/matroxG400nlx.jpg I bought one for my daughter's E-3200 from http://w2.pcsurplusonline.com/ vian an ebay auction. With shipping I got it for under $20. Good luck. Regards, Brian
