OS: Win 98
CPU/Ram: P3/512
Comment:

I have a P3 supposed to be a 1Ghz but the bottom of the proc. says 650mhz. anyway, as soon as I turn the comp. on it beeps 4 times, nothing comes onto the screen ever.

I pulled the ram out fired it up 4 beeps again.
I pulled the proc. out and the heatsink fan out and left the ram out 4 beeps again.
I put the proc. in left the ram out and left the heatsink fan out 4 beeps again.
I pulled the network card out left the proc. in, left the ram and heatsink fan out. still 4 beeps

All these times it would not boot into the bios and I pulled out the bios battery so it would reset as well. is this a dead mobo or a dead proc.?? the mobo has everything onboard except the network connector, it has one cdrw drive and one floppy drive just some additional info for everyone, other than that I have not a clue what is wrong with it...

Thanks for any help

What you need for a good POST is the following:

A Power supply
A Motherboard
A processor
A Video card
And one stick of known good RAM

Since you say your motherboard is highly intergrated, then the video card is prolly built into the motherboard.

Now. Depending on how new your motherboard is. You may or may not be able to reset all settings by resetting the BIOS. ie; CMOS settings.

For instance. You may have jumpers on the motherboard that set the FSB speed.

It will be helpful to you to consult the motherboard manual.
If you do not have one. Then I'm sure you can download one from the internet.
Just google a search for it.

It would also be helpful if you could determine the type of BIOS you have and then go to this site to see what the beeps are trying to tell you.

Post back with further questions.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

P.S.>

If the Processor says it is 650 mghz, then that is prolly what it is.

I would use Google to search for the FSB speed setting for that Processor.

I don't know right off the top of my head what it should be.

If I had to guess, I would start at 66 mghz one the FSB and work up from there.

To determine your multiplier divide the FSB into the processor's clock speed which is 650 mghz.

Good Luck.
