Sometimes all you need to do to get the battery to be reported as having more capacity with a new battery is to simply charge it longer with the computer off.
Look on the web for tips about what you need to do to get the battery to be reported as having more capacity.
E.g. at places that sell replacement laptop batteries, or that have info about laptops, such as this one:
http://www.laptopbattery.net/
Some laptops have a built in program in the bios Setup or in the programs in Windows that the maker has supplied that will run a routine that will improve the capacity reported.
Or look on the laptop manufacturer's site for tips.

some laptops have a battery cycle option on the bios. have a poke around there. what it does is charges then discharges the battery. it can get old batterys up and running and it also registers its self as having a large battery in it
