I got a replacement battery for my laptop under my extended warranty plan and when I attach it and boot up I get a message that it is either not connected properly or the battery is not compatible. It then has me click ok to go into hybernation.
I took it back to the store to have their people look at it and the guy told me it is the correct battery and that possibly the system reset and no other battery would work.
I thought I could get a replacement battery, connect it and all would be good. Something doesn't make sense. Please help.

There is a possibility that when the old battery died it damaged the connection to the laptop! This does happen!
What doe syour battery calibrator in bios say? Usually as a rule of thumb if the battery fits then it will normally be compatible.
There is a chance that a fresh OS installation will correct the problem.
Matt

Why would he need to reinstall Windows because of a battery change? But as was said above, "if battery fits then it will normally be compatible". Double check that it's mounted securely then bootup with the power supply connected.

Because the information he gave has given me th eimpression that it is windows saying the battery is not compatible and putting the system into hybernation (Icould have gotten the wrong impression, apologies if I have) and we all know how much XP and Vista dislike hardware changes! :)
Matt

The battery fits perfectly. How do I check the battery calibration in bios? Also when windows boots up it tells me the battery is incompatible and when i press ok it goes into hibernation so how can i check calibration if it does that?

Try this, not sure what laptop you have but take the battery off, use the power adapter and start windows.
then go to run and type msconfig, in the startup tap look for a file called ISBMgr.exe, if you find this, disable it by unchecking the box.
Then shut down windows and the laptop, put the battery back in and try again.
Let me know what happens.
Matt

I disabled ISBMgr.exe rebooted with the battery in and my computer went into hibernation when I was responding to you. When it shut down, my battery light was blinking and my computer wouldn't turn back on. I put my old battery in to reboot. It still says the newer battery is not compatible.

Ok, you need to find and delete ISBMgr.exe then! It sounds as though it has started itself as you were typing!
It's a file intalled by SONY to try to make you buy their original batteries!
Depending on how old your laptop is will depend on the results BUT if you are running XP onwards you should be fine!
Matt

Thank you Matt, removing ISBMgr.exe did the job. I no longer get the incompatible message and the new battery is charging. It's amazing the tech guy i got the battery from couldn't figure that out. Thank you again, I really appreciate your help!

Matt - U are the battery guru... I had the same problem above and used your recommendation to remove the ISBMge.exe file and was successful in getting rid of Sony's hibernatation menu.

Hi Matt, the battery is working fine, it just doesn't hold a charge for very long. Anything I can do to extend the charge? I need to plug into AC in less than 2hrs.
