Battery Charge Problems

Specs: Windows 2000, 2.127 GHz / 2039 MB
This is the second battery that was placed in my laptop. I thought the first was old or defective and would not charge properly. The same happened with the second one, it takes about 30 hours to get a full charge. Are there any settings that can help me with this, or could there be a loose wire or some other problem that I'm not aware of. I have selected the power scheme "Portable/Laptop". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This laptop is a C640, not the D610 showing at the beginning of the thread.

Just a suggestion, but if it's an older NiCad (not NiMH) battery, then allow the battery to drain completely before charging (to the point that the system won't power on). Then recharge completely (overnight) before turning the unit on. Repeat this process. If after 2 attempts at this, the battery doesn't charge more quickly, or doesn't hold a charge, then you could have something wrong in the charging circuit...
