Hi everyone,
I am using MBM v5 to monitor my system's temperature. I know they are somewhat high, but I just wanted to ask what you were thinking of them, particularly today since it got a little hot, for september anyway.
Case temp: 86F (30C)
CPU temp : 140F (60C) idle; 149F (65C) full load for 10 minutes using Sandra's burn-in tool. Now that I got the computer back in my room in the basement (it's cooler)
Case temp: 25C
CPU temp : 54C; full load 59-60CNow those temps won't ruin my CPU, I've read that they are suppose to stand up to 70C+ without any problems. The thing is that I have recently invested in a couple of case fans and only gained 2 degrees.
I have two fans set as exhaust at the back of the case, one on the side set as intake wich blow almost directly over the CPU, another is on top of the case (exhaust) and the last one is directly at the front (intake).
I've tried various combinations of intake/exhaust but the best temperature I got were the one above. How do you think I would get a better airflow?
I've also tried with the side panel open with a big fan blowing directly into the case and the temps were still around 60C, under load.
I'm just wondering how could I get my CPU temp. down cause I would really like to OC but at those temps, it's near impossible.
Thank you for your input,
JayF

Forgot to mention that I am using the stock AMD HSF that came with a thermal pad. After using it for a few weeks like that I have added OCZ Ultra II Compound at the same time I added the case fans.

Not that it matters, but since you removed the pad, you voided your 3 yr warranty. Hopefully you cleaned the pad off completely & only used a small amount of paste...I bet your temp didn't change by much since changing thermal material, if it did at all?
You temp seems a bit high, but I have no experience with the Barton...my XP1800+ tbred & 1200 Duron Morgan both idle in the low 30s with Vcool cooling software...my 1.333 Athlon tbird idles in the high 40s w/o cooling software. I run with 2 case fans...intake in front, exhaust in rear & do my best to keep all internal cables neatly tucked outta the way. I also try to leave an open slot between PCI/AGP cards when I can.

The temperatures that you report are all within the normal range for the AMD CPU. So don't you sweat them, since your cpu isn't...

Hi all,
Thanks for the responses,
I will try to move my cables around a little more...see if it help. I guess it's my only choice left since I already have 5 decent case fans.
What do you guys recommend I should go for if I buy a new HSF. Those temps are ok, but I would like to OC a little bit and those temps just won't let me (or would they ;)

Most important is jams comment:
"Hopefully you cleaned the pad off completely & only used a small amount of paste..."
If so, I'd have at the overclock. Just watch your temps as you work on it.

And put the strongest of your 80mm case fans on top of it. Maybe one of the two you currently have as rear exhaust
