My Sony Vaio laptop holds RAM in two ports. It comes with 256MB installed in 1 of 2. I installed a second 256MB into port 2 of 2. Worked fine for 6 months, no problems at all. One day I plugged in a serial interface device into my serial port and my computer went dead. I thought the motherboard had fried. However I found out that RAM port 2 of 2 was bad/dead. When any memory card is installed into it my computer is dead. The same memory card will work when put in port 1 (the default port) as long as no card is installed in port 2. I have verified that the memory purchased is correct and as I said, the same card will work when installed in port 1.
