If Sony uses proprietary PSUs (I don't know if they do or not), you may have no choice.

for less than 200, you could change out the motherboard and PSU.

ATI AIW 9600pro

but is it a proprietary motherboard? - in that case a generic one may not fit straight in, like the earlier reply, I do not know if that sony has generic or proprietary parts. If the psu is non-standard then the same may well apply to the motherboard.
Second hand one on ebay maybe?

There are two major considerations as to whether you can use a generic standard PS/2 sized PS - the wiring of the main connector, and the size of the PS box.

Go here:
http://www.power-on.com/atx12vem300...
This is only an example - don't buy this particular PS - it is made by Bestec, a maker of PSs that is known to have some models that fail more often than average.

Hold your cursor over the main power connector. If your PS main connector wire colors are the same in the same positions, the wiring of your main connector is the same as a generic PS.
A wire (white) is not needed at position 18 if you have no ISA slots - it doesn't matter if the generic PS or your PS has that wire in that case.
Pins 11 and 20 of this PS also contain a second smaller +3.3V, +5V Sense wire, respectively.
Some original PSs don't have the +5v sense wire - it probably doesn't matter whether the generic PS has that or not.

Note the Dimensions US 5.5" x 5.9" (5 7/8") x 3.4" (3 3/8")
or 140mm x 149mm x 86mm; l x w x h; l can be a bit more and still fit in your case; w is of the side the fan at the back of the case is on, and opposite.
If your PS box is close to that size, a standard PS/2 sized generic PS will fit in your case. If it is smaller than that, you either have a standard sized micro ATX PS case, or a proprietary sized micro ATX PS case. Some sizes are easy to find, some are not and you might have to get it from Sony.
