Comment:

Since the laptop was bought, I would get blue screens periodically and could not boot into windows. This happened 2 or 3 times and was forced to format each time.

Since then, the hard drive was tested to be ok.
I used memtest86 to test the memory and got an error about every 5th pass, using 2 512 sticks.
After testing one at a time in the first slot for several hours, there were no errors, but when using the second slot, errors occured.

Does it sound like the mobo is bad, or is it something else?

Sorry, its corsair value select ram. And now, there are errors on both sticks and both slots.
The Ram is fairly new, so does it sound like both sticks are bad? or could it be something with timings?

Thanks

Also, in memtest the errors are all from the same address "00000000000000008c"

Post processor speed.

Read your mobo's manual. Can it handle that much RAM?

Its a amd64 3700 2.2ghz, and not sure about the mobo, but it is a failry new mobo, and would think it would be 2gb max.

Try taking one stick out and see how the other one responds.

I had a problem with 512 and my 256. Turns out they didn't really like eachother that much because the 256 wasn't as "up-to-date" as with the 512 stick.

So, try it and post if it did/didn't work.

Both sticks have been tested alone in each slot at a time, and the same error came up each time.

They are both the same type of memory.

Try underclocking a bit.

There might also be RAM timing tweaks in the Bios that you could try.
