Bad Hard drive? Motherboard or Both

i have an HP Pavillion I am trying to fix. I am getting the error: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. The Bios will not reconize the Hard drive. So I tried the hard drive in another PC. See can't be reconized. So i tried a different hard drive in the HP and the Bios will reconize it. But it still won't boot. I get a different error: A DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED. But that drive is good and boots any where else. Would that mean I have both a bad hard drive and a bad mother board? How else can I test the PC to buy the right part to repair it? I'll take any help i can get. Thanks

is this a new harddrive to the motherboard you have or did it work then stop ?
if it's new to the sytem it possible that you may need to flash the bios to a newer version to recognize the drive

Sblumenthal does the bios setup recognize the drive size correct? make double sure the ide cable is connected good at both ends. would help to know if you have other hdds or cd drives connected and on what ide.
AVINASH if you have a problem start your own thread, it gets to confusing on who is answering who!
