I have had a continued problem with my laptop computer. It is an Acer 633Lci travelmate. Because my computer was taking a LONG time to boot-up (~10 mins) I have tried defraging my hard drive using system tools, norton, and diskeeper, however, my problem still continues. My real problem occurs when the CPU heats up my cursor and computer temporarily freezes for a few seconds (~10) and then resumes. I have attempted looking at performance issues, hitting ctrl-alt-del while computer is frozen and nothing works.

Is my CPU damaged? My boot time is still over 5 minutes even though my fragmentation of my hd is less than 9% and I have 16% of my hd of free space. How do I fix this? Can anyone help?

Thanks, I was afraid that was what I had to do... It is awlful trying to back everything up when you only have an 8x burner.

Buy a second drive. Backups go very fast when they are hard drive to hard drive. :-)

Since you are not locking up I doubt there is a hardware problem. Before reinstalling xp I'd try repairing the registry and/or removing all device drivers and letting them reinstall. Also clean up msconfig>startup, since if for instance you have a mouse driver running at startup but are using a different mouse, your symptoms would make sense.
