Can I put pc5300 200pin SoDimm in a laptop that cam with pc2700? If I put in the 5300 will it at least perform at the 2700 speed?
It's not compatible. PC5300 is DDR2...PC2700 is DDR1. They may both have 200-pins, but they require different voltages & the edges are notched differently so they can't be installed in the wrong slot.

Thank you. I didn't think they were, but I needed to know for sure. I was offered a great deal on some 200pin. Would have made another bad decision. Thanx again.
Summary: I have a working slot 1 mobo with a BX chipset. The manual says that it can accept up to a 450Mhz processor however does not mention anything about SEC. I want to upgrade by removing the existing 300...
Summary: Really? I can't think he could gain anything, because I'm obviously going to take it back! But is the RAM definitely not backwards compatible like this? Thanks ...
