backing up to usb memory stick

Kingston / 128gb usb memory stick

Specs: Macintosh 10.5.8, Intel Core2 Duo: 2Gb RAM
I've bought a Kingston 128Gb USB memory stick, which is moire than ample to take everything on my hard disk, but backing up to never works - it hangs up after about 5Gb and won't proceed. I've tried formatting the USB drive - I've verified it - nothing works. I have a iMac G5 and wanted to back up to the USB memory stick using Time Machine, but it won't play.
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

You mean other than using a USB memory stick as a backup device? USB sticks are unreliable & have a high failure rate. They should be used for temporary storage or for transferring files, NOT for backing up or anything that is "mission critical". Hopefully this isn't your sole backup plan?

Mickliq - I also have a 300Gb external hard drive which I have been using and obviously will have to continue with it, even though it's a bit noisy. The USB stick is just irritating inasmuch as it is supposed to hold 128Gb, but doesn't seem able to. Anyway, no real problem. Thanks for your interest. EricJH
