Is there a less ARGHH! way of backing up data on a hard drive than copy to CD. i was going to install a fresh copy of windows XP so the hard drive will boot on my new comp:

AMD 64 3200+
512 Pc3200 ram (soon to be 1GB)
Proactive A8V-E deluxe NW MOBO
Geforce 6600GT <--YES YES YES!! FINALY!!
200GB Maxtor hard drive
-----------

Back to my question:

Put as simply as i can.. I want to keep file on my hard drive but wipe windows off it, so that i can install a fresh version on my new comp.. so that it will be set up with all the drivers ect to run on this comp =)

Can i do this? am i able to partision a space and copy over to it... without having to format the hard drive?

any ideas .. 18GB of music has taken me a while to collect and loosing it would reeealllyyy P me off.

if you have space to parition then yes or you could get partition magic and repartition and move files.

Please keep us updated so we know if we helped you or not.

Symantec Ghost or Acronis Drive Image

Wouldn't even frighten an ordinary house cat.

You need a second hard disk internal or external or can span across multiple CDR(W)'s or DVDR's

Purchase a DVD writer and backup your music files before you lose them!!!!!

A DVD writer is definitely the answer here.

Look for a second drive that will accomodate all you want to keep. Then temporarily install it and copy off what you want.
