please help! background tab is gone can't even go to control panel, display to get it! i tried a method left on here a couple years back and didn't work! any new ideas? i really want to be able to change my background again!

Not particularly crucial in this case, but it tends to provide potential helpers an insight as to how committed you (the OP) are to the inquiries that you are requesting assistance with.
Have you tried system restore?
BTW, what fix was it that you said you applied ..... kellys-korner?
If your answer to the above is NO, you might want to try it. Go here & scroll down to #285 to the right. Right click on Restore All Display Tabs & save it anywhere you want -- preferably to your desktop -- then run it from there.
See if that works.

ok it worked, i have the tab back, but the new problem is it doesn't work! no browse, no scrolling up or down nothing. any ideas?

What do you mean by "background tab"
are you talking about the desktop???
Just right click on your taskbar, go to properties, then select show quick launch and you should have a desktop shortcut on your taskbar. Is this what you are talking about???
