1) You are missing a graphics card.
2) I would personally go for a SATA hard drive since it's faster than IDE.
3) No CD-RW. How are you going to backup your data etc?

4) How much RAM are you putting in? Just the one stick?

Ben,
Pentium 4 1.7GHz, 256 Cache
512 DDR RAM PC2700
ATI Radeon 9200SE 128 DDR RAM
Western Digital 80GB 7200 RPM

Yep you need a video card...and you have dualk channel ram so you would probably see better performance with 2 ram sticks...at the price you are paying, why not do a gig of ram anyway (though brandless ram scares me and I would not buy it) and serial ATA is no only faster, it is allot quieter. By the way the 8 meg cache mode ide from WD carries a better warranty as well if you stick to ide drive.

Why are you ordering a motherboard with an AGP interface, do you already have an AGP card ?. If you plan to buy a new video card better scratch that JetWay board and get a PCI-E motherboard instead. A board like this is even better than that JetWay....(Not everyone's idea though).

With regards to ram, 939 supports dual channel so get another 512MB stick and run them in dual channel mode, and for roughly the same amount you can pick up a DVD burner from places like eBay.

It's not a good idea to buy computer cases on the internet, I'd suggest you walk in to a local store and size up your prey before you go for the kill, if there is a problem it is a lot easier to resolve as compared to S&H one ordered online, prefarably other one without a PSU, so you can add a custom PSU.

Once again, since the hard drive is always the weakest link in modern PC's, get the fastest you can afford and certainly not one with a 2MB cache....ouch!!!.

I hate to be bearer of bad news, but quite honestly you can do much better.

Hopefully you get to see this before ordering.

At this point in time, SATA is not faster than IDE. It has the potential to be faster, but that probably will not be for some time.

I should clarify my previous post. It's the hard drives themselves that limit the speed. They are not presently fast enough to reach the IDE maximum sustained throughput.

You went from one extreme to another...started with a crappy eMachine & now this? I thought you wanted a budget system? I agree with your decision to build (provided you find someone who knows what they're doing)...but personally, if I was gonna build a socket 939 Athlon 64 system, I would NOT get motherboard with AGP, I would NOT get a VIA based board, & I would NOT get a Jetway. If you're not gonna go all the way & build a system with PCI-e graphics (& I know you're not), ditch this idea altogether. Stick with a system similar to the one from CyberPower.

Consider these components...I've given you 2 alternatives (cheaper & more expensive) where possible:

Motherboard:

Socket 754 nForce3 250 w/AGP

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131512

CPU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103452

RAM:

You said you already have 512MB but you never said if it's PC2100, 2700, or 3200. The S754 doesn't support dual channel mode, so you "may" be able to just add 512MB to what you already have. But if you don't have PC3200, I suggest you buy 1GB (2 x 512MB)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440

Optical drive (DVD burner):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827130034

HDD:

If you wanna stick with PATA rather than SATA, CompUSA has a 160GB 7200RPM 8MB cache drive on sale this week for $40 after rebate(s)

Case/PSU:

$16 shipping kinda kills the deal. You might be better off shopping locally. Be aware that when buying a case w/PSU, the PSU may not be a very good one. Check the specs if you can, especially the amperage on the +12v rail. 16A is the minimum required, with 18A or better recommended.

A couple of added thoughts....

- Your 9800PRO AGP card needs to be connected to the PSU, so it's important that your new PSU can handle the extra load.

- Although PCI-E is the future of graphics, AGP is gonna be with us for a while...the 9800PRO is still a very good card & there will be future AGP upgrades available for some time to come. Head to head competition between AGP & PCI-e versions of the same card show little or no difference in performance, but eventually, PCI-e will pull way out in front

- As was mentioned by ham30, SATA HDDs are not faster than PATA (IDE) at this time. The motherboards I listed support both types (plus RAID), so there is future upgradeablity here as well.

- The S754 Sempron is better than any socket A AthlonXP/Sempron, so an Athlon 64 CPU isn't an absolute necessity. You could always upgrade to a better CPU later, when the prices drop even more. Right now, the top S754 A64 (3700+ ClawHammer) sells for about $265

- you can build on a budget & still have a kickass machine, but all the components have to "mesh"
