Hi again, is there something to power on a pc at certain hour? the reason is am doing a download of a really big file, using flashget, and i want the pc auto turn on itself at 7:00am (time the servers get on) sadly am not in the office until 3:00pm and am loosing hours of downloading. FYI: The servers shuting down every day at 8:00pm and restart at 7:00am so I cant leave my machine on all the night.
If is there such a program to turn the pc on (what i doubt) let me know.
Thanks and sorry for this almost dumb question.

The only way I know of you can do that for sure is:
- you set you bios Setup settings to re-start the computer after power is restored after an AC power loss, or similar.
- you connect at least the computer PS cord, or whatever power block it is pligged into, to a grounded AC timer switch, such as one you would use for a car block heater in the winter - it MUST be grounded.
Obviously if you don't have a grounded timer switch, you must purchase one.
- set the timer to the time you want the computer to turn off in the evening (e.g. 8pm), and when you want it to turn on in the morning (e.g. 7am)
- when the timer restores power to the computer in the morning, the bios setting will make it automatically start up.

There are X10 devices that will turn devices on remotely or with a special clock. However, not very practical for a one time event.

i have seen some computers where it can be set in the bios to power on at a cerain time each day. Others I have seen where there is a setting to power on from lan or modem - can you use that, so that it powers up when server comes on, or by plugging modem into phoen point and then phoning the telephone number of that phone point from home to power up computer

Assuming this all goes according to plan, isn't the system passworded or are you logged in automatically as well?

Can't you just use the task manager? In programs/accessoires/system tools you'll find scheduled tasks. Define the task you want to run at 7AM. Then at properties/settings you can define that the PC has to wake up to run this task. Put your PC in standby the day before and it works.
